Seal, Carver/Printer |
"M-gift seal" (reads "Wa-ta-na-be") lower/right image. |

Impression |
Very Fine. Skillfully executed "bokashi" shading to sky, trees, temple structures, stone areas, and foreground; marvelously life-like shadowing; highly detailed carving. |
Condition |
Nearly Excellent. Strong colors; very clean backside. (Very slight tape traces verso corners (slight skinning to one); light printer's wrinkle.) |
Reference/Illus |
Pachter pl #58; Narazaki #322 |
Comments |
Bears unusual "gift seal" lower/right corner.
Narazaki reports that this composition was designed with an interest in depicting the complex shadows which are seen cast on the
flagstones of the temple's path and steps.
Interestingly, the "backwards swastika" symbol is actually the Japanese kanji for "temple." Fresh. |
