Date Late-Edo to early-Meiji period, ca1840/70.

Technique Painting itself is "sumi-ink," colored inks, and "gofun-white" on silk.
Mounting Size Entire "kakejiku" (hanging scroll) is 22 1/4 x 72 1/2 overall.
Mounting Details Yellow-gold silk (artwork) mounted against green-patterned silk; narrow silk "ichimonji" brocade top/bottom; BONE end-pieced bottom roller.
Condition Good to Very Good. Scattered small spots, faint water stain lower image. Overall light wear and minor flaws. Some curling, typical of scroll mounts.
Comments Striking. An attractive painting of a two snowy white herons wading in stylistically painted water, under reeds--nicely mounted as a hanging scroll. A unique, true one-of-a-kind artwork.
