Series "Twelve Scenes of Tokyo"

Seal, Carver/Printer "7mm" and new "N-seal."
Image Size 9 1/4 x 14 1/2
Impression Very Fine. Skillfully executed "bokashi" shading throughout print; extensive "gauffrage" (embossing) to horse, wagon, poles, and clouds; crisp key-lines, highly detailed carving.
Condition Excellent. Excellent colors. Clean front and verso.
(No flaws noted.)
Reference/Illus Hotei #27.
Comments A colorful and beautiful rendition of an earlier 1919 pre-Earthquake design whose blockset was lost to the fires of 1923's Great Earthquake. Newly reissued in 2012 by Watanabe using a recaved blockset (the first such re-carving done--denoted by an entirely new Watanabe "seal" seen right margin). Other such recently reissued Hasui prints are discussed in "June 2002 - Five Additional Hasui Prints Re-issued by Watanabe."
